I am an American veteran living here in New Zealand. I have personally restored many early Mustangs and early Chevs.

I just finished a total restored 1956 Chev 2 drht. The total cost was just over $40,00. I'm sure if I had had Dan Short even try to do this he would have tried to screw me for over $100,000. I even put everything new from Dancuks parts.

Even cruise control. He is such a fake and also such a big damn bully. I wouldn't let fix work on my bicycle. People should be very afraid to take their pride and joy cars to him.

I'm 81 going on 40 and enjoy cruising in my new toy.

Thanks for listening and beware of Fantomworks and Dan Short. jim crain sr.

Reason of review: Fake mechanic and conman.

Every car he restores there's a major problem sounds like he's a crook

Doesn't know anything about Corvettes. Said on show that the highest horsepower Corvette in 1967 was 435hp.Hass Dan not heard of the L88 450hp in 67.

When he worked on the 63 split window he said the knock off wheels were original to the car.

There were no any Corvettes produced with knock offs in 1963. You should get a consultant so you can get things right.

The primary issue for me is the petulant, arrogant behavior towards owners and prior work done then following up with questionable examples of workmanship/knowledge himself. His over the top aghast reactions to common issues and standard problem areas that should have been caught during estimate evaluation (not 80% into the build) are hard to overlook.

Atop that is the overbearing attitude that the Customer will get what i decide they will get and i say they need, often as a pricey surprise at the end. The show opening quote is telling in this regard and reinforces that this; indeed, is the mentality of the owner: "if we have to choose between you and your car, we're not choosing you". Simply distastful and a poor message. It is a juevenile attempt to say something about his "passion" for the cars.

However, it comes across as "everything except your payment shall be ignored" The car doesn't pay the bill, the owner does. The car is his/her property, not you personal canvas to exhaust your creative bowel upon.

Perhaps the trope of the pretentious creative genious is best left to fashion, culinary arts and chopper shows which feature offspring capable of cutting edge actions like welding yet more bits of rod stock onto other peoples parts. Then again, if his Customers are happy and his business prospers, Good on him and hope it continues for he and his Family.

Jim crain, well said and you nailed it.. Dan is a CON man and would try to sell the Brooklyn bridge and take their life savings.

He would also sleep like a baby..Have you seen his Rt.66 travel and CON MOCK BREAKDOWN.. Unbelievable to what this CON MAN Dan would do

So you did all the work yourself. I respect that but you didn't have to pay for the employees salaries.

Taxes on payroll, insurance for them and the property. Also all the miscellaneous extras. So your a MORON!When you run and own your own business call me after six months and tell me you could do all that for $50,000.00

I pay more in insurance and taxes than you would ever imagine. And I have never cheated anyone like you have.

Just admit it when you are wrong because you are sure wrong a *** of a lot of times. I was building cars before you were even born and have never had an angry customer or an unhappy one. You sure can't say the same thing about yourself. Let me give you a small free lesson in life."Its nice to be important, but more important to be nice".There is no charge for this as I know you won't pay any attention anyway.

I am so lucky that I have a TV remote so every time you come on the TV I can change the channel. I respect your military service as I was in Korea in the USAF but you didn't learn how to be such a bully in the military or someone would have fixed you out pretty quickly.

If you would only learn how to really treat people instead of thinking about the almighty dollar you would be better off. Maybe you are just too stubborn or too old to learn how to be nice. Who knows? If you didn't have your TV show I think you would have to close your shop and get a real job.

You could sure take a lesson from Chip Foose and others like him. Real respected gentlemen. Enough said, I will sign off now and still wish you good luck but you will always be the same arrogant self centered person and people will continue to dislike you.

Hey Jim are you not trying to bully him here with your arrogant Iโ€™m the best he sucks comments? If Iโ€™m correct you just restored your own car so you didnโ€™t have to pay salaries since you did the work on your own car.

I could take fantomworks or I could leave it. I just wonder if you spent $40,000 on parts how much the whole car wouldโ€™ve cost if you had to pay employees to do it.

Hope you enjoy cruising in YOUR new toy while adding up what it would have cost for labor if it was a customers car. Peace, Tim

Hi Tim, I was surfing tonight and saw your reply several years ago about my 56 Chev I restored 5 years ago. Yes I did do some of the labor myself (tear down)but all the brand new parts cost me $10,00US and paid the rest ($30,000) in labor costs here in New Zealand.

Its nice to have some honest friends to help me. You can buy everything brand new from Danchuk's for 55,56, and 57 chevs. I am now almost 85 and still having fun cruising in my JIMS 56.

Have a great day and hope to hear from you sometime at holyn1@***.com Thanks, jim crain sr. Hamilton, New Zealand "Its nice to be important but more important to be nice"
