It's all about the final product . . .
I admit, and proudly so, that I am not one of Dan's customers. Rather, I am a just a schlub who has a good eye for detail, and I spit bullets every time I watch a PW episode.
I respect Dan for his service to our country, but that's where it ends. He is one hot-headed SOB who insults and demeans his employees and his customers. I have yet to see one of his finished cars that doesn't look like something out of a 1950's high school shop class. MT showcases a finished product at the end of each episode, and nearly every one shows a poorly aligned hood, door, trunk lid or bumper.
Why is it so difficult to correctly set rubber bumpers on a hood or trunk lid, or to adjust door hinges and bumper bolts? I've frequently done it myself over the years, and any simpleton with a good eye can sight-line those issues and correct them in 30 minutes. Dan demands high-end payment for low-end work, and grins in the end for successfully passing off poor quality for good money. Craftsmanship and an eye for detail are certainly not his strong suits.
So how, for the love of God, has he remained in business so long?!?
My guess is that the fortune he's made off MT's sponsorship more than subsidized his crap shop operation. Personally, I wouldn't trust PW with my riding lawnmower, much less a car that I loved.

Verified Reviewer |People who don't understand what it's like to take a Vintage car in for repairs
Do you think mechanics work for free ? anytime you go INSIDE any car over 25 years old, you hope they can fix it for the price quoted, The Next time you call a Plumber to unclog the kitchen sink and they quote you $199 and when they leave they charge you $399 because the main line was plugged......
you may be upset but you pay because..... it's the same thing here.. At Phantom Works or Bobs Plumbing....they gave you an ESTIMATE.....right.... did they tell you to pay in advance ?
ESTIMATE. I have a '97 Triple White Firebird Convertible w/38k and a '95 Triple Black T/A w/138k and every time I take them in I HOPE they come close to the ESTIMATE, when they don't it's because they are old and everything the shop touches is OLD.
User's recommendation: If you don't want to take a car in for repairs buy a new car
